In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the couple shared that what was initially planned as a trip to watch Usher perform turned into a special occasion for renewing their vows. They wanted this celebration to be intimate and free from the presence of cameras.

“We had initially planned to have another reception or some sort of celebration for our wedding. While getting married on TV was nice because some expenses were covered, we didn’t have the chance to truly personalize our wedding experience,” Lauren shared with PEOPLE. “However, due to quarantine and the COVID-19 pandemic, our plans were derailed. But considering it’s our fifth anniversary and we’ve been incredibly busy lately, we feel that now is the perfect time to celebrate in our own unique and enjoyable way.”

During the interview, Lauren and Cameron highlighted the constant growth of their love for one another. They emphasized how they have overcome challenges by actively listening and appreciating each other. Both of them expressed admiration for the selflessness they see in their partner.

“Five years is a significant amount of time, yet it also feels fleeting. It’s all about perspective.
