Relaxing in the comfort of your favorite social media platform, you stumble upon a familiar story. David, our adventurous traveler, embarked on a journey to the enchanting Philippines to meet his online love, Sheila, as depicted in the captivating sixth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. As their virtual connection transcended into reality, Sheila couldn’t help but worry about David’s encounter with her family. Her concerns stemmed from his hearing impairment, doubting the ease of their communication. In addition, Sheila confessed her nervousness about David’s perception of their humble living conditions, fearing he might suspect her of ulterior financial motives.
Unfortunately, Sheila’s apprehensions were not entirely unfounded. David, noticeably uneasy, described their first evening together as “awkward.” Upon further inspection, he was disheartened to find the lingering odor of urine and feces in their surroundings. Little did they know that tragedy would strike during the night while the family peacefully slept. Sheila narrates the heartbreaking tale through tear-filled eyes, stating that her beloved mother tragically fell near the stairs as they were not nailed properly and promptly gave way. This devastating accident occurred around 5 a.m., unbeknownst to her sleeping family. It was only upon awakening the following morning that they discovered her lifeless body, forever changing their lives.
Florian Sukaj, while sharing his story on the reality show Darcey Stacey, opened up about the heartbreaking news of his sister, Elmira Sukaj’s battle with cancer. Florian, who had left Albania to be with his then-fiancé Stacey Silva, described Elmira as an incredibly positive person. He highlighted her kindness and optimism, explaining how she never spoke ill of anyone and always maintained hope in every aspect of life. However, despite her seemingly radiant spirit, Elmira’s life was tragically cut short by the relentless disease. Florian expressed his belief that God often takes away the good souls, leaving behind a sense of sorrow but also cherishing the memories of a remarkable person like Elmira.

With the premiere of Season 9 of 90 Day Fiancé in April 2022, Guillermo Rojer embarked on the K-1 visa process with his partner, Kara Bass, leaving behind his life in the Dominican Republic. However, their journey took a tragic turn when Guillermo received the devastating news of his brother José Joaquín’s passing in the middle of the night. José Joaquín had been undergoing dialysis and had moved to another city to be taken care of by their middle brother prior to his hospitalization.
The K-1 visa rules prevented Guillermo from leaving the United States to attend his brother’s funeral without an “Advance Parole” document. Leaving the country before his wedding would require him to reapply for the fiancé visa since it only allows a one-time entry. Despite this obstacle, Guillermo found a touching way to honor his late brother at their wedding in Virginia by reserving a seat for him in the front row during the ceremony.
In a different season of the show, Corey Rathgeber faced a heartbreaking loss while he was abroad with his partner Evelin Villegas on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. Corey’s father, Gary Rathgeber, passed away from an inflamed pancreas, which deeply affected Corey. Reflecting on his father’s sudden illness and passing, Corey’s mother described how he developed severe pains and deteriorated rapidly. Despite medical intervention, it became clear that his father would not survive, and he passed away in January 2019.
Losing his father was a devastating experience for Corey, and he expressed his heartbreak to the show’s producers. While Corey and Evelin embarked on their new life together, his father’s absence weighed heavily on him, leaving him to navigate their relationship without his father’s guidance and support.
Glenda Standridge, who is Angela Deem’s mother, tragically passed away shortly after Angela’s wedding to Michael Ilesanmi in Nigeria in February 2020. In the previous season 5, Angela from Hazlehurst, Georgia, was conflicted about leaving her mother to travel to Africa to tie the knot. However, her mother gave her blessing for Angela to go ahead with the wedding and remained in the care of Angela’s daughter, Skyla.
In a tearful video selfie during an episode of Happily Ever After in September 2020, Angela expressed her worry and sadness as she received the news that her mother was unresponsive and an ambulance was present. She anxiously awaited further updates from Skyla, who she was unable to reach at that moment.
