Gerry Turner’s Extravagant Wedding Cake Shines with Layers of Edible Gold Leaf

Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner, the beloved actors from the hit show ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ exchanged vows and became life partners on the joyful day of January 4th.

Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner had a wedding cake that perfectly matched their Golden Bachelor theme. The cake, which was showcased during their televised ceremony in California, was a stunning four-tier creation covered entirely in edible gold leaf. Resting on a golden cake stand, the cake was elegantly adorned with white florals on top. The couple, aged 70 and 72 respectively, exchanged their vows at the beautiful La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, California. The ceremony was officiated by Susan Noles, a beloved figure from the show. During the reception, Nist’s daughter and maid of honor, Jen Woolston, gave guests a glimpse of the magnificent cake. The guests, including notable figures like Dean Unglert, Caelynn Miller-Keyes, Jade Roper Tolbert, Tanner Tolbert, Wells Adams, Tayshia Adams, Raven Gates, Adam Gottschalk, and the new Bachelor Joey Graziadei, danced and celebrated all night long.

Woolsten also revealed the delectable menu that was served at the event. Following the cocktail hour, the guests, comprising of family and friends, indulged in scrumptious offerings such as a refreshing caprese salad. For the main course, they had the option to choose from a succulent filet mignon, a flavor-packed herb-crusted Alaskan halibut, or a savory eggplant parmesan dish.
Adding to the festive atmosphere of the night were the creatively named signature drinks. Among them were the Turner Her into a Mrs, a vodka cranberry with a twist of lime; the Birthday Suit, a spicy margarita; The Final Rose, an old fashioned; and the One Headlight, a delightful blend of Prosecco and elderflower.
In the time leading up to their wedding, Turner and Nist began their day by being featured on the cover of PEOPLE magazine. In their interview, Turner emphasized the significance of having a cake as an integral part of their wedding celebration.

The couple had unanimous agreement when it came to selecting the delectable cuisine for their special day. “We were completely aligned on the menu options,” he happily shared. “We made sure to offer a wide variety, so there is definitely something to appeal to everyone’s taste buds. Personally, I can’t wait to finish dinner and indulge in the scrumptious cake!”

To satisfy their guests, the newlyweds decided to serve two delightful flavors. Turner opted for a classic combination of vanilla paired with a luscious chocolate mousse and topped with a delectable cappuccino cream frosting. Nist, on the other hand, went for a more tangy and refreshing choice, selecting the delectable blend of raspberry and lemon flavors.

Due to health conditions preventing 92-year-old Everett, Turner’s father, from journeying all the way from Indiana to California for the wedding, he cleverly devised an alternative solution.

Turner shared his plan to make the wedding cake extra special by arranging for a small replica to be delivered to a baker in Fort Wayne. The baker, who regularly hosts watch parties, would get to enjoy a taste of the wedding festivities.
It’s worth noting that this was not the first wedding for either Nist or Turner. Nist had previously been married to William “Billy” Nist, but their marriage was cut short when he was drafted for the Vietnam War. They spent over 42 years together before Billy passed away in 2014. Similarly, Turner had been married to his high school sweetheart, Toni Turner, for more than four decades before she passed away in 2017. During their time on The Golden Bachelor, Nist and Turner found solace in their shared experiences of grief and a shared optimism for the future.
