A seasoned gold prospector in Western Australia, renowned for his innovative motorcycle designed for gold detection, is feeling incredibly fortunate after stumbling upon not just one, but two colossal gold nuggets weighing a remarkable kilogram each during his latest adventure through the state. With over five decades of experience in prospecting across every gold-rich region in Australia, Gary Tomasovich has mastered his skills to a level that few can rival.
Gary Tomasovich, a 69-year-old mechanical engineer, explores the vast Goldfields of Western Australia in search of precious gold nuggets. Equipped with his trusty air-cooled diesel motorcycle adorned with steel guards and a reliable Minelab gold detector, Gary embarks on thrilling prospecting adventures. His latest excursion proved to be particularly fruitful, yielding remarkable results.
During a recent expedition, Gary focused his attention on a reef located in central WA. While the surface of the reef seemed promising, venturing further away revealed a significant interference caused by high mineralization. The runoff from the ironstone had heavily mineralized the area, presenting challenges for Gary’s prospecting endeavors.
Despite these obstacles, Gary’s determination and expertise enabled him to navigate through the mineralized terrain and uncover a remarkable treasure. It was during this venture that he stumbled upon a staggering 997g nugget, a mesmerizing testament to his perseverance and skill.
Gary’s success serves as a reminder of the incredible opportunities hidden within the Goldfields of Western Australia, beckoning passionate adventurers to explore and unearth the alluring beauty of nature’s golden wonders.
Captured by The Prospectors Patch, Mr. Tomasovich dismounted his bicycle and took out his handheld detector. “At a distance of approximately 80 meters from the reef, I received a strong signal and discovered a nugget buried 2 1/2 feet beneath the surface, weighing around 1100 grams,” he recounted. “My heart skipped a beat. It’s always exhilarating, especially after a couple of unproductive days.”
After giving the nugget a thorough cleaning, its final weight turned out to be 1076 grams. And the streak of success continued. “I was exploring a different area in the eastern goldfields of WA along with a friend, and after six days of hard work, our finds were disappointingly scanty,” Mr. Tomasovich shared.
Captured by The Prospectors Patch, this particular land caught my interest due to its gentle slope towards a picturesque creek. As I explored the area, I stumbled upon a remarkable discovery – a 340 gram nugget alongside a handful of smaller fragments. Despite returning to camp, the allure of that patch lingered in my mind for days to come.
Unable to resist the beckoning call, I made my way back to the familiar creek bank. Enveloped by the earthy aroma of loamy soil and gravel, a faint signal enticed me to dig deeper. With every scoop of soil, the anticipation grew until, at the depth of three feet, my trusty detector began to emit a piercing scream. Excitement coursing through my veins, I bravely delved another six inches, unveiling the treasure I had yearned for – a magnificent 997 gram nugget.
To put the value of my astonishing find into perspective, it is essential to note that one kilogram of gold currently holds a price tag of approximately AUD$54,373.
