Amy Slaton, one of the stars of the show “1000-Lb. Sisters,” shared her struggles of being a mom in a recent clip from season 5. In the video posted on TLC’s Instagram page, Amy opens up about feeling constantly exhausted while taking care of her two sons, Gage and Glenn. She expresses her overwhelm to her sisters, tearfully admitting that it’s a lot to handle.
Amy’s sister, Amanda Halterman, offers her support and reminds Amy that their ex-husband, Michael, is also capable of taking care of the kids. Amanda suggests that Amy should take some time for herself and hires a nanny to help out. In fact, she even brings Michael into the room to assist Amy in asking potential nannies questions for the video recording.
It’s clear that Amy is reaching her breaking point, and her family is stepping in to lend a helping hand. The clip showcases the struggles and emotions that come with being a parent, emphasizing the importance of self-care and seeking support from loved ones.
“I really need your help,” Amy pleaded with Michael. “I can’t keep going like this anymore.”
Amy’s sister, Amanda, chimed in and defended her, explaining that Amy was expending all her energy on taking care of their children, leaving no room for self-care or managing the household. While Amy suggested hiring a nanny as a solution, Amanda argued that Michael needed to take more responsibility too.
Amy expressed her desire for a nanny, emphasizing that it would provide someone to look after the kids so she could attend therapy and work through her depression. She claimed, “He won’t let me leave the house without the kids.”
Confiding in a private recording, Amy shared her frustration about Michael’s reluctance to watch both kids on his own. She wondered if he didn’t want to or simply couldn’t handle the responsibility while playing video games simultaneously.
Following the release of the video, many fans expressed their disappointment in Michael’s lack of involvement in raising their sons. One commenter demanded, “Michael needs to step up!” Another bluntly stated, “Michael seems lazy. I don’t really expect anything more from him.”

The specific filming date and whether or not a nanny was present are uncertain, but court documents obtained exclusively by In Touch reveal that it happened before Michael officially filed for divorce in March. The separation of the former couple was stated as February 24, though no specific reason was provided for their split.
In the court documents, Michael requested that he and Amy both attend a case management conference. He also asked for a civil restraining order that would keep them from being within 500 feet of each other or each other’s residences. Additionally, he requested that neither of them make public statements or social media posts about each other.
According to legal records viewed by The U.S. Sun, their divorce was finalized on September 6, and custody of their sons was ordered to be split between Amy and Michael.
