Cathy Bosk is commemorating her 70th birthday by embarking on a 70-day adventure filled with special experiences. One of these treats was meeting Gerry Turner, the popular star of the reality TV dating show “The Golden Bachelor,” which Bosk thoroughly enjoyed watching in the past year.
Yesterday, fans flocked to the BMW of Fort Wayne dealership on the west side of the city to attend Turner’s meet-and-greet session. Turner, a 72-year-old widower, hails from Steuben County and was chosen as the first season’s bachelor in May. The show, which aired in September, followed his journey to find love among a group of 22 female contestants.
Turner’s pursuit of love was both successful in terms of romance and ratings. During the season finale, which aired on November 30, he proposed to Theresa Nist, a 70-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey. Their marriage ceremony was broadcast live on ABC on January 4.
Bosk had always believed that “The Bachelor” should include older participants, and she was delighted to see Turner as the star of “The Golden Bachelor.” While ABC has an application on their website for those interested in season two of the show, no official confirmation has been made. However, Turner is optimistic about the possibility of airing “The Golden Bachelorette” in the near future.
Nist, unfortunately, could not attend the meet-and-greet due to limited vacation days. However, she and Turner will enjoy their honeymoon in Italy courtesy of ABC, with Nist taking additional vacation days for the trip. Turner, who visited the dealership to purchase a car a few weeks ago, proposed the idea of a meet-and-greet during the conversation.
Since his appearance on the show, Turner has become popular among fans who frequently request photos with him. He happily obliges, never turning anyone down. Turner appreciates the opportunity to interact with the public and make new acquaintances, mentioning that his father surprised him by attending the event.
Emily Koenemann, a devoted fan of “The Golden Bachelor,” attended the meet-and-greet with her six-year-old daughter Abby. They coincidentally found themselves in the area while shopping for shoes and decided to stop by and meet Gerry Turner. Although Abby did not watch the show, she still took a picture with Turner. Koenemann finds it exciting to have someone from northeast Indiana, like Turner, on the show to raise awareness about their state, the Hoosier State.
