Gerry and Theresa on THE GOLDEN BACHELOR “Finale and After the Final Rose”

In a heartwarming twist, the love story that began on the first-ever season of “The Golden Bachelor” is set to culminate in a live wedding ceremony on ABC. Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist, 70, will tie the knot on the upcoming “Golden Wedding” special, marking the completion of their TV romance. Leading up to the big day, the senior sweethearts shared some details about their wedding plans with Entertainment Weekly.

When asked about the progress of their wedding planning, Theresa revealed that about 85% of the arrangements have been made. She credited her daughter for assisting her in making quick decisions. As for Theresa’s dress, she was accompanied by Gerry’s two daughters, her own daughter, daughter-in-law, and two unidentified women from the show to go dress shopping. After trying on various dresses, Theresa ultimately chose the one that received unanimous approval from everyone present. She hopes that the dress will look just as stunning on the wedding day as it did during the fitting.

Gerry, on the other hand, mentioned that he aims to have a traditional look for the wedding. He wants to complement Theresa’s style and intends to wear an outfit that he would have loved to wear 55 years ago, during his first marriage, but couldn’t afford at the time.

When it comes to the guest list, Theresa expressed their desire to have all the women from “The Golden Bachelor” series in attendance. However, they are unsure if everyone will be able to join. In addition, there will be guests from Bachelor Nation and their close family and friends. Gerry emphasized that they want the wedding to feel like a joyous celebration, extending the happy family atmosphere to their closest friends.

As their wedding day approaches, it is clear that Gerry and Theresa are excited about the future and eager to share their happiness with their loved ones and the viewers who have been rooting for their love story.

How many individuals are we discussing here?

THERESA:
I estimate around 125.

GERRY:
Are you referring to the viewing audience? It could be millions! [Laughs] We hope for around 8 or 9 million. However, the number of people actually consuming the cake might be significantly less: about 100 to 150 perhaps.

Speaking of cake, Gerry, in our previous conversation, you mentioned your excitement about having a truly exceptional cake. How many cake tastings have you attended, and where do you stand in the cake selection process?

GERRY:
In my small contribution to the planning, I thoroughly enjoyed trying out different cake flavors and finding the ones that complemented each other. Theresa also tried some and discovered a flavor that she absolutely adored. So, we will actually have two cake flavors – one that Teresa loves and one that I love.

THERESA:
I chose the smaller cake, while he went for the larger one. But he truly relished the experience.

GERRY:
I must admit, it was quite a delight. [Laughs]

Theresa, during our last conversation, you mentioned your hope that certain aspects from the show would be incorporated into your wedding. Can you give us a sneak peek of any special references to your journey that we can expect to see during the ceremony?

THERESA:
Indeed, it was quite a journey, and that is significant. Perhaps there might be a reference to the diner – it’s a possibility.

GERRY:
That particular aspect is still under discussion. You’ll have to watch and find out, as it adds an element of surprise. We wouldn’t want to spoil it.

Gerry Turner notes

GERRY: I don’t think I need to justify anything. The playlist I shared online was based on my personal taste in music. I was simply asked to provide a list for the wedding, not select the actual songs that will be played during the ceremony. Theresa has a deep appreciation for music and will be making those choices, as they are important to her. My playlist is meant for when we want to let loose and enjoy some drinks.

THERESA: I took the task of creating a playlist very seriously. They asked for 20 songs, and I ended up compiling 120. Music holds great significance for me as it sets the mood and evokes various emotions in people. I invested a lot of time into curating the list. However, I don’t think they will actually use any of our songs.

Were there any songs that you absolutely insisted on including?

THERESA: Personally, I had to include Van Morrison in my list. [Looking at Gerry] As for you, maybe Pink?

GERRY: Yeah, but that’s not a make-or-break condition. At the end of the day, I will be marrying the love of my life, and there isn’t anything that would prevent me from doing that.
