Matt Bolton sits down for an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, delving into the transformation that occurred between him and Colleen Reed leading up to their highly anticipated wedding day.
This post unveils the spoilers from the season 3 finale of the popular show Love Is Blind. The journey to the altar was not without its challenges for Matt Bolton and Colleen Reed. As the couple approached their wedding day, both seemed uncertain about their final decision. However, to Colleen’s surprise, love ultimately triumphed, and they both said “yes” to each other at the altar.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Matt, 28, reflects on what led him to give Colleen, 26, a definitive “yes” on their special day. He acknowledges that there were numerous conversations that viewers didn’t witness, which played a significant role in their journey. Going through those conversations and minor conflicts allowed them to learn how they handle difficult situations. Matt expresses regret for his past actions, specifically referencing scenes in Malibu and Dallas where he got into a fight with Colleen and considered ending the relationship. He now realizes the importance of not running away when challenges arise and admits to seeking an easy way out. Despite their doubts and discussions leading up to the wedding, seeing Colleen walk down the aisle made him believe in their potential and their undeniable connection. He couldn’t pass up such a significant moment.
Colleen echoes Matt’s sentiments, stating that they were deeply in love but were also facing conflicts that made her question if love was enough. Throughout the season, viewers saw her grapple with this question, and Matt had similar concerns. However, they both knew that their feelings for each other were strong, and they approached marriage with utmost seriousness. They followed their instincts and ultimately realized that love was indeed enough for them. Colleen was certain when she saw Matt’s emotional reaction as she walked down the aisle; she knew he was her soulmate.
Love Is Blind star Raven Ross confesses she was not prepared for the unexpected turn of events that occurred at the altar. It all started when Colleen, who was engaged to Matt at the time, was caught flirting with fellow engaged contestant Cole Barnett at the pool during their group getaway in Malibu. Although Matt and Colleen had first connected in the pods, they ended up getting engaged to other people. As they met face-to-face for the first time, Cole admitted that Colleen was physically her type, and Colleen reciprocated by confessing that Cole was someone she would be interested in outside of the experiment. This revelation caused a major argument between Matt and Colleen, resulting in Matt proclaiming that he was done with the relationship.
Despite their rocky start, Matt and Colleen managed to reconcile and seemed ready for marriage. However, their relationship faced another setback when Colleen stayed out late with the girls, leaving Matt feeling clueless about her whereabouts. In his frustration, Matt packed his bags and contemplated leaving Colleen for good, seeking solace from fellow contestant Bartise Bowden.
Once again, Matt and Colleen found a way to work through their issues and appeared to be fully committed to each other. However, just days before the wedding, doubt resurfaced when Colleen expressed uncertainty about whether love alone was enough for a successful marriage during their date at the aquarium.
Reflecting on the challenges they faced, Colleen admits that trust was never an issue between her and Matt. She emphasizes that her comments about her past with Cole were meant to highlight the reasons why they didn’t work out and why she ultimately chose Matt as her partner.
Colleen Reed, the ballet dancer and digital public relations strategist, believes that viewers of Love Is Blind missed out on her “love story” with Raven. According to her, there were “a lot of blanks” in their portrayal on the show, particularly regarding how they dealt with conflict and the importance of communication. Colleen explains that she struggled to effectively communicate her feelings to Matt, leading to misunderstandings which were exacerbated by others getting involved. For her, the experience highlighted the need to assert herself and establish clear boundaries instead of always trying to be nice.
Since getting married in June 2021, Matt acknowledges that he and Colleen have faced challenges adjusting to life as newlyweds. Leaving the show and its unique environment allowed them to discover more about each other and begin the process of merging their schedules and interests. Initially, it was tough to find a balance between their individual routines and incorporating each other into their daily lives, but they have worked through it and are currently in a good place.
Colleen emphasizes that she wouldn’t change a thing about her love story with Matt except for one specific moment involving Cole in the pool. She values the transparency and honesty they shared throughout their journey and feels grateful for finding each other. However, reflecting on that particular conversation, she wishes she had handled it differently, especially considering her fondness for Zanab.
