In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Kody Brown openly admits that he could have handled his four marriages better before they fell apart. It’s a situation he never saw coming, and he’s struggling to cope with it all.
Over a period of just 14 months, three of the patriarch’s marriages from Sister Wives crumbled. Christine Brown was the first to leave in November 2021, followed by Janelle Brown in December 2022. By January 2023, his relationship with Meri Brown had officially ended after years of being distant and more like friends than partners.

After years of being in multiple relationships, Kody is now solely committed to his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, his only legal spouse. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Kody and his Sister Wives open up about the difficulties they have faced due to this major change in their dynamic, which they refer to as a “domino effect.”
“It hasn’t been easy – there’s been a lot of hurt, accusations, and disagreements,” admits the 54-year-old TLC star. “But we have to hold onto the hope that we can still maintain a friendship moving forward, especially since we will always be connected through our children.”

Kody, who has 18 children from his four marriages, acknowledges his shortcomings as a spouse and takes responsibility for the end of his three marriages. “I know I could have been a better husband,” he confesses. Meanwhile, Janelle, 54, is trying to stay optimistic during this turbulent time, stating, “We’re all adjusting to the changes ahead. There are nothing but opportunities waiting for us.”
