“I made a personal vow to myself that when my divorce was finalized, I would approach any future marriage with a greater level of caution and care,” shared Robyn Brown, one of the stars of the reality series Sister Wives. During a recent episode of the popular TLC show, Robyn, 41, reflected on her previous marriage, which was filled with pain and conflict.
In the episode, Robyn visited her sister wife Janelle Brown at her home, where they delved into their communication dynamics within their plural family. Robyn shared her frustrations, stating, “Every time we have discussions as a group of five, I leave with a knot in my stomach.” She was referring to conversations with her husband Kody Brown and sister wives Christine and Meri.
The ongoing COVID situation has only exacerbated the breakdown in communication. Robyn expressed, “COVID has really highlighted our struggles with communication. Instead of having meaningful conversations about the pandemic, we often talk past each other.”
In discussing their contrasting communication styles, Janelle expressed, “Sometimes, I’m just very talkative and enthusiastic, like, ‘This is amazing, this is amazing,’ whereas you tend to be more reserved.” Robyn agreed, admitting, “I am typically quiet and tend to be cautious.” Janelle then expressed her desire for Robyn to speak up more.
In a private discussion, Robyn opened up about her relationship with her husband Kody, revealing that they have rarely had significant disagreements during their ten-year marriage. “To be honest, we hardly ever fight. I can probably count on one hand the number of real fights we’ve had in the past decade.” She elaborated on her past marriage, emphasizing the frequent conflicts and pain she experienced. “After going through a divorce, I made a promise to myself to be more careful and cautious if I ever got married again.”
Robyn became the fourth wife of Kody Brown in 2010, joining his already established family. Kody’s first wife, Meri, married him in April 1990, followed by Janelle in 1993 and Christine in 1994.
Although initially only legally married to Meri, Kody and Robyn made the decision for Meri to divorce him in 2014. This legal change allowed Kody to marry Robyn and granted her three children from her previous marriage access to the same insurance and benefits as Kody’s other children. It’s important to note that, despite the divorce, Kody still considers himself to be spiritually married to all four of his wives.
In the course of her union with Kody, Robyn has joyfully embraced two additional offspring: her son Solomon and daughter Ariella. The recent episode shed light on their discussion regarding the prospect of expanding their family further. In a confessional, Robyn contemplated her age, acknowledging the relentless passage of time. She noted, “At 41 years old, my biological clock is ticking. We cannot afford to procrastinate if this is truly our desire.” Tune in to Sister Wives airing Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
