The season 5 finale of “Love Is Blind” delivered both happy endings and heartbreaking farewells for the remaining hopeful couples.
In the latest episode, viewers witnessed the conclusion of the journeys of Stacy Snyder and Izzy Zapata, as well as Milton Johnson and Lydia Velez Gonzalez, who both made it to the altar.
Leading up to the finale, audiences were treated to plenty of drama, including a couple breaking up during their Mexico getaway, shocking revelations about the contestants’ previous relationships, and second chances given to couples who didn’t initially get engaged in the pods.
Facing various challenges in the real world, the couples had to truly evaluate whether love truly knows no limitations. Read on to discover which couples still believe in the power of blind love and which ultimately decided to part ways.
In season 5 of the popular show, Taylor Rue and Jared “JP” Pierce were the first couple to get engaged. However, their relationship quickly hit a rough patch during their trip to Mexico. One of the main issues they faced was the lack of conversation flow, with Taylor wanting JP to open up more while he felt pressured to do so. This led to many uncomfortable moments between them.
Things took a turn for the worse when Taylor confronted JP about their disconnect, and he admitted that he had felt uncomfortable with her physical appearance when they first met in person. He criticized her for wearing too much makeup and presenting a “fake” version of herself. He expressed his desire to see her without makeup, emphasizing that he wanted to see her true self.
Taylor found his comments unfair, as she argued that he didn’t know what she looked like without makeup before. Despite their efforts to find common ground, their engagement ultimately ended the next morning. Taylor reached her breaking point and decided to call it quits.
Reflecting on the situation, Taylor explained, “I just knew deep down that this was not the right relationship for me. My heart told me it was time to walk away.”
Milton Johnson and Lydia Velez Gonzalez had quite an unconventional path to their wedding day. Their journey started in the pods where they formed a connection and got engaged without ever seeing each other. However, their happy bubble burst when Lydia confessed that she had previously dated another participant, Uche Okoroha, who happened to be connecting with her best friend on the show, Aaliyah Cosby.
Naturally, Milton was taken aback by this revelation and remained silent in the pods. Lydia, on the other hand, wished for a more vocal response from him. Failing to receive that, they decided to take a break from the pods and spend some time apart before reuniting to discuss the bombshell.
Although they managed to move past this initial shock, their troubles were far from over. Aaliyah, feeling uncomfortable with Lydia’s knowledge about Uche and her comments on their relationship, decided to leave the experiment early. This departure seemed to be connected to the history between Uche and Lydia.
The drama escalated further when Uche returned to the cast mixer and engaged in a heated argument with Lydia. In a surprising turn of events, Uche accused Lydia of stalking him after their breakup and even claimed that she followed him onto the show. Although Milton claimed that he wasn’t affected by these accusations, he later admitted to being unhappy with how Lydia had handled the situation.
Milton’s family also added to the couple’s challenges. They were initially skeptical of Lydia and questioned the legitimacy of their relationship due to their seven-year age difference.
Despite all the obstacles, they managed to overcome them and exchanged vows at the altar. During their wedding, Milton expressed his love for Lydia and praised her for her maturity in communication. He had never doubted that she was the one for him and hoped that their strong bond would continue to flourish.
In the pods, Izzy formed connections with several women, including Stacy, Lydia, and Johnie. However, it was Stacy who captured his heart and received his proposal for marriage.
Once engaged and meeting in person, Izzy and Stacy seemed to have natural chemistry and a comfortable dynamic. However, things took a turn when Izzy was introduced to Stacy’s life in Houston. He immediately began criticizing her way of living, pointing out her “messy” apartment, drawer of random women’s belongings, and use of paper plates.
Financial concerns also arose, as Stacy became worried about Izzy’s poor credit and financial situation. This was particularly unsettling for her, as she was accustomed to a lavish lifestyle and wanted someone who could provide that for her.
On their wedding day, Izzy agreed to marry Stacy, but she wasn’t ready to commit. At the altar, she expressed her hesitation, stating that she would be doing them both a disservice by saying “I do” when they needed more time to work through their issues.
Despite the rocky start, Izzy stated that he understood and still loved Stacy, and the two shared a kiss. However, he later realized that they were in different places and needed space. This decision broke his heart, as he still cared for her deeply.
In an interview, Izzy expressed frustration with Stacy’s constant search for flaws and her focus on external factors like looks, money, and drama. He questioned why those things mattered and wondered why Stacy, at 33, was still single and not married. Izzy believed that he could offer her everything that older, wealthier men couldn’t.
The upcoming season 5 reunion of Love Is Blind will reveal the status of their relationship, as well as the other couples on the show. Fans can catch all the updates streaming on Netflix.
