The Inside Scoop: Love Is Blind’s Latest AD Opens Up about Matthew’s Unexpected Decision in the Pods (Exclusive Interview)

Amber Desiree “AD” Smith openly acknowledges to PEOPLE that Matthew Duliba has a rather captivating approach to communication, but she assures that their friendship remains intact despite his deceitful act within the pod.

Please note that this story contains spoilers from the first six episodes of Love Is Blind season 6. In Love Is Blind season 6, there was a surprising love triangle that took place between Amber Desiree “AD” Smith, Matthew Duliba, and Amber Grant. AD and Matthew initially had an awkward start inside the pods, but they eventually formed a connection. However, AD was shocked to discover that Matthew had also formed a connection with Amber Grant and was saying the exact same things to her.

As a result of the drama, both Amber and Matthew left the show, while AD pursued her connection with Clay Gravesande. Despite their own ups and downs, Clay and AD ended up getting engaged. Following Matthew’s betrayal in the pods, AD, who is 32 years old, reveals that she has since communicated with the 37-year-old senior financial advisor, and there are no hard feelings between them.

AD expresses that she has no regrets about the love triangle and believes she made the best decisions she could in that moment. She adds that her conversations with Matthew went well, as he has an interesting way of expressing himself. AD didn’t pressure him and they had a conversation where he said what he wanted to say before moving on.

Netflix viewers were treated to a revealing conversation between Matthew and AD during their pod date in episode 1. Matthew expressed his desire to ask for AD’s father’s blessing before proposing, emphasizing that he would prioritize their relationship above all else. He even offered to whisk her away to a picturesque mountain top for the perfect proposal, proclaiming, “Matthew, let’s get the hell out of here.”
When AD was asked if she would share this intimate moment with others, she chose to keep it to herself, relishing in the joy of their connection. In a confessional interview, she described Matthew as the sweetest and most genuine person she had encountered on the show so far, displaying a level of authenticity that was rare among the other contestants.
However, later in the day, Amber, another contestant vying for Matthew’s affection, disclosed to AD that she too had a great date with him. It was revealed that Matthew had expressed the same sentiments about asking her father for his blessing and leaving the show if he couldn’t fulfill that request. AD was taken aback by this revelation, realizing that Matthew’s words to her were almost identical to his conversation with Amber.
Feeling betrayed, AD shared her frustration with fellow contestant Alejandra in their living quarters. She questioned Matthew’s motives, wondering why he would use the same explicit language and elicit her emotional response if he was having similar conversations with other women. The situation left AD feeling confused and hurt, as she sought to uncover the truth behind Matthew’s intentions.

When AD confronted Matthew about their strikingly similar conversations, they relayed, “I felt so affirmed and secure after our time together, so it really hurt to realize that you were saying the same things to someone else. AD was honest and transparent about the specifics, and it was clear that their experiences mirrored each other.”
Matthew vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that “it’s not true” and emphasizing that “what I shared with you went much deeper than what I told her.” He reassured AD that if he had to make a decision at that moment, he would have chosen them.
Later on, in a private conversation between Amber and AD, they confronted each other and discovered that Matthew had indeed expressed the same sentiments to both of them just a few hours apart. After tears were shed and a heartfelt embrace, Amber made the decision to gracefully exit the show, stating that it was “time to step back.”

AD joined Matthew in the pods for another date, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. Matthew expressed his distress, stating that it was unfair that he couldn’t commit to the plan that AD wanted. He admitted that part of the reason was his connection with Clay, which meant he had to walk away from the show.
AD sarcastically remarked that Matthew sounded devastated, wondering if it was because Amber had left. Matthew responded by saying that he felt like he had broken someone’s heart on national TV, referring to Amber, and then did the same thing to AD the previous day.
AD was stunned by Matthew’s response and decided to leave the room. Back with the other men, Matthew made it clear that he was done and that he was going to pursue Amber.
It is currently unknown whether Matthew and Amber ever reconnect outside of the pods. Meanwhile, AD and Clay are happily engaged and enjoying their time in Punta Cana before returning to reality in Charlotte, North Carolina.
