Kody Brown, the lead of the reality TV show Sister Wives, is finally opening up about the true reason he was resistant to splitting up with his wife Christine Brown before she made the decision to end their 26-year marriage. Kody and Christine entered into a spiritual marriage on March 25, 1994. Kody had previously stated that he chose to marry Christine because she came from a prominent polygamist family, which he believed could elevate his status in the church. However, Christine ultimately left Kody due to his actions that caused her daughter Ysabel’s heartbreak. Kody had refused to accompany them to Ysabel’s scoliosis operation, and overall, Christine felt a lack of trust and communication in their relationship.
A sneak peek of the upcoming special “Sister Wives Look Back: How It’s Going” was recently shared by UsWeekly. In the clip, Kody reveals that Christine called him a “coward” because he was unwilling to end their marriage. According to Kody, it was because they were not allowed to separate. The former spouses will be shown a conversation they had in 2021 where Christine expressed her desire to no longer be married to Kody. At the time, Kody seemed accepting of her decision and emphasized that neither of them were trapped in their spiritual marriage. So, what has Christine been up to since Season 18 of Sister Wives?
However, Kody has had a change of heart regarding his previous stance. He now recognizes that he felt trapped in the relationship, leading him to believe he was like a prisoner. Rather than communicating his feelings openly, he resorted to derogatory language in his internal dialogue.
Kody further elaborated on the complexities within the polygamist community, explaining that when a polygamist husband reaches a point where he can no longer handle being with a particular woman, he must navigate the church authority channel to find a resolution. In Kody’s case, adhering to this authority would have required him to remain married to Christine despite his wavering feelings.
Reflecting on his initial response, Kody acknowledged that once a commitment to marry a woman is made in the polygamist community, it becomes an irreversible choice. This realization sheds light on his resistance towards openly ending his relationship with Christine.
Despite Kody’s previous sentiment, he now expresses gratitude towards Christine for the courage she displayed in breaking away from their marriage. He admits that he was not in love with Christine, emphasizing the importance of honesty and emotional compatibility in any relationship.
“I tried my best to love her, but it didn’t always work out,” he expressed. By contrast, TLC’s Christine is experiencing a deep sense of love as she has found her soulmate, David Woolley, after leaving Kody. Unlike her previous marriage, Christine’s relationship with David is uncomplicated and free from any limitations. From the moment they met, David’s love for Christine was evident, giving her the assurance to embrace her true self. Unlike her previous experiences, Christine didn’t have to go through any obstacles to earn David’s affection. When she signed up on a dating website in search of a partner, she ended up finding him in David.
Christine was immediately captivated by David’s ability to always say the right things. His genuine nature impressed her greatly. Christine expressed that she didn’t even realize what she had been missing when she was with Kody. However, it was upon meeting David’s family that Christine had an epiphany and knew that he was the one for her. After breaking things off with Kody, Christine introduced David to the public over a year later. Just two months after their introduction, they got engaged. In a magical wedding ceremony held in Moab, Utah in October 2023, Christine, a star of the show Sister Wives, walked down the aisle to marry the love of her life.
