Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner may have found their happily ever after on The Golden Bachelor, but the new Mrs. Turner revealed that Gerry “couldn’t prepare” her to watch the ABC reality series. During a Q A Panel alongside her fiancé at the Times Center in New York City on December 11, Theresa said that she was “horrified” watching the show back. She added that Gerry tried his best but “there’s some things he just couldn’t prepare me for.”

While Theresa didn’t dish about what specifically “horrified” her, Gerry shared that he was uncomfortable watching the show back—especially during the rose ceremonies.

“At the end of the day, when you know you have to send some of those women home, it was just soul-crushing,” Gerry explained during the panel. “You form good friendships, good relationships, good connections, and you work really hard to do it because you want to be open to every possibility that’s in front of you.” He went on to say that the ceremonies were the “hardest part” of filming the show because they “had a lot of tears.”

As for Theresa, she admitted that her time on the show made her more “open-minded” when it came to forming romantic connections. “I learned how I could really take a step back and allow him to explore it with every other woman and to really cheer them on and say, ‘Great. I want you to go on a date,'” she revealed. “I really wanted Gerry to find the right person, and I only wanted it to be me if it was right for it to be me.”

And in the end, it was her! Theresa and Gerry are set to tie the knot (live!) on The Golden Wedding TV special, which airs on ABC on Thursday, January 4.
